For several months a strange creature, or the image of a bizarre ghost haunted Hammersmith and Turnham Green, a village on the outskirts of London.
Caroline "Carrie" Holbrook and her daughter Florence "Florie" Chandler, moved in the highest circles of American and European society. As Victorian ladies they were taught to run from any hint of scandal, but by the time they passed from this life their names were linked to infidelity, secret marriages, murder and even Jack the Ripper.
In July, 1874, a four-year-old child named Charles Brewster Ross was kidnapped from the streets of Germantown, Pennsylvania. He was playing there with his older brother Walter.

They were young, four of them, and they already made the acquaintance of Indianapolis's mayor for stealing a quantity of whiskey. One of them was named Macy Warner (birth name Amasa Warner). The mayor took it under advisement, but perhaps he didn't realize this wouldn't be the last time he would hear of Macy.
